What Can Dermal Fillers Do for Me?

One of the main causes of facial aging is the gradual breakdown of collagen in the skin. This important substance helps to create a structure for youthful skin cells to build around. Less collagen results in thinner skin that tends to sag and develop wrinkles and creases. It can also lead to the characteristic appearance of hollowed areas under the eyes or cheeks. The good news is that a treatment with dermal fillers can help reverse these common signs of aging without the need for hospitalization or lengthy recovery times.

Dermal Fillers

Fillers are injectable products with names like Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Sculptra®. They contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid and polylactic acid that work to enhance facial volume to smooth away lines and wrinkles. Most fillers offer immediate results and require no sedation or downtime.

Sculptra®

Sculptra® is a unique type of filler that contains something called polylactic acid, a synthetically produced substance that is similar to the lactic acid your body produces when you exercise vigorously. Once Sculptra® is injected into your skin, it stimulates a process whereby it is gradually replaced by freshly produced collagen. This helps to add thickness to your facial skin and smooth away fine lines and wrinkles. You may need to periodically massage the injection sites to ensure even product distribution.

Restylane®

The active ingredient in Restylane® is hyaluronic acid, a substance that you may be familiar with as a popular ingredient in numerous skin care products. Not only does hyaluronic acid have an anti-aging effect when applied topically, it is also an excellent dermal filler ingredient due to its ability to attract moisture into skin tissue. After injection, Restylane® immediately goes to work to add thickness and hydration to your skin to diminish the signs of lines and wrinkles.

Juvederm®

Juvederm® is somewhat similar to Restylane® in that it contains hyaluronic acid. But Juvederm® also contains an added ingredient called lidocaine to help ensure your comfort during your treatment. Like all dermal fillers, Juvederm® will eventually be absorbed by your body and follow-ups will be required to maintain your results.
